    3. Viewing AngleViewing angle is the maximum angle at which a Led display can be viewed with acceptable visual performance. It includes horizontal and vertical view angles.When the viewers move to the left side or the right side of the Led display panel, they will see the Led display brightness gets decreased; when the brightness is decreased to the half of the maximum, the viewer’s current position angle plus that in the opposite direction is called Horizontal viewing angle; vertical viewing angle can be measured in the same way.  

    4. Optimum viewing distanceThe optimum viewing distance is a distance where user can see all the content of the Led display screen completely, no color cast, at that place the image is clearest for viewer.     5. FlatnessThe surface of Led display panel is not flat per the criterion that will cause the Led display image distortion. The quality of Led display surface roughness is determined mainly by the production process.

Obama’s worries while in Africa: even the LED display is made in China!

In the evening of July24, Air Force One with president of the USA Barack Obama on board arrived at the Nairobi international airport in Kenya. He is the first USA president who has visited his hometown while in office. Obama was warmly welcomed by the local people. On July 25th, Obama attended the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Before departing for Africa, Obama was confronted with quite an embarrassing issue: while being interviewed for the BBC he was asked by the station’s chief editor for North America John Soulbel: “Haven’t the Chinese already conquered the African market? The African Union Headquarters which you just entered was built by the Chinese, the road you walked along was also constructed by the Chinese.”

LED Video Displays: Characteristics And Technologies

Today we tend to take LED video displays for granted. Indeed, they became common features in our towns and we mostly pay attention to their outward quality parameters. we believe time has come to spell out major technical principles of modern LED video displays, those principles that ultimately ensure what millions of people see on screens every day.

Modern LED video display is a complex system with enormous number of components. The image quality and operational parameters depend on the quality of each of those components as well as on the functionality of screen control system.

• The following LED video display characteristics are essential from the point of view of image quality:
• LED video display resolution (so called spatial resolution), in LED video displays it is closely related to distance between pixels or pitch size;
• Maximum brightness (measured in Nits);
• Dynamic brightness range understood as the number of brightness levels that the screen is capable to support (sometimes it is also called radiometric or energy resolution);
• Frame rate measures how often a video source can feed an entire frame of new data to a display, the frequency of frames changing per second (fps) (sometimes referred to as temporal resolution);
• Refresh rate (measured in Hz) is the number of times in a second that a display hardware draws the data, or refreshes the frame (also referred to as temporal resolution);
• Spectral resolution: Color images distinguish light of different spectra. Multi-spectral images resolve even finer differences of spectrum or wavelength than is needed to reproduce color. The term determines how many spectral components create an image;
• Color uniformity throughout the screen;
• White balance and possibility of fine-tuning it;
  Linear perception of brightness – subjective quality of image quality that determines how the human eye distinguishes between adjacent brightness levels both on dark and bright parts of the screen;
• Image contrast;
• Image quality determined by the viewing angle.
• Apart from the image quality it is important to consider some key operational parameters of the LED video display:
• Feedback or monitoring system of screen condition;
• Mature software and comprehensive control system that allow to scaling of the system and construction of LED and LCD video display networks with remote control via the Internet through in-built informational security subsystem;
• Level of electromagnetic radiation in the form of electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the screen.

LED billboards a hit in Russian cinemas

In Russia, a cinema chain has taken advantage of LED display billboards in order to advertise the menu of products which are available from its concessions stand.

Formula Kino cinemas across the capital of Moscow and beyond were kitted out with the LED display billboards.

The billboards were put up in more than 14 locations and were used to replace the standard printed menus which had previously hung in their place. The digital content made available by the LED billboards will let customers know about the latest deals and available items in an inventive manner, rather than they having to strain their eyes at the bland predecessors.

Formula Kino spokesperson Andrey Alikberov, said that the cinema chain had decided to upgrade to the LED billboards because of the effectiveness of the technology. The ability to make alterations to the information which the billboards are displaying in real time, without any added expense, is seen as key to their success.

The LED billboards are controlled remotely, which according to Mr Alikberov is another advantage. The modernity of the designs of the billboards combined with the eye catching visual impact they have on visitors to the cinema, helps the chain to seem more forward-thinking and innovative than its rivals, he said.

Formula Kino is hoping to expand the use of LED billboards to all of the cinemas which it operates in Russia in the near future. Mr Alikberov said that the billboards would eventually be able to offer interactive features for consumers to use, although he did not expand to explain precisely what this might involve.

The use of LED display billboards to advertise dynamic menu content is becoming more common as an alternative to the static options, which were limited by past technology.

The Ingress Protection Of LED Display

We usually see the ‘IP rating’ or Ingress Protection in the LED Display product advertising brochures, generally it defines the protection degree that the LED Display product should meet for the outdoor or long-time usage.

LED screens must be able to work 24 hours a day and 7 days a week and withstand extremely bad weather. For manufacturers it is required that the LED screens meet the criterion for outdoor LED screens IP65, and for indoor LED screens IP20. So what do these criterions mean? And what does IP65 and IP20 stand for?

The IP code (or International Protection Rating, sometimes also interpreted as Ingress Protection Rating) consists of the letters IP followed by two digits and an optional letter.

As defined in international standard IEC 60529, it classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water in electrical enclosures of the LED display screens. The standard aims to provide users more detailed information than vague marketing terms such as waterproof.

Let’s take some examples for detailed explanations:

Front Outdoor LED Screens: IP67

The first digit indicates the protection against dust. And "6" means Dust Tight, which means no ingress of dust and complete protection against contact. The second digit indicates the protection against liquids. And "7" means ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion).

Back Outdoor LED Screens: IP55

The 2 digits indicate the same parameter with above. But the letters are different. And the first "5" means Dust Protected: Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact. The second "5" means: Water projected by a nozzle against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
